Linda Barnicott

Linda began her career as a portrait artist. Today she is beloved and sought-after for her art of the Pittsburgh area; art that evokes memories of a gentler time. Using rich pastels Linda captures the charm of famous Pittsburgh locations.

The now-famous "Meet Me Under Kaufmann's Clock", in 1989, was a tribute to downtown holiday shopping. Beginning with this work Linda has created several series of Pittsburgh scenes, capturing memories beloved across the generations.

In 1995, she began painting a series of Kennywood Park scenes, even more popular than downtown Pittsburgh. Since then, Linda has captured the magic of all the local amusement parks - Storybook Forest, Idlewild Park, Sand Castle Water Park, and West View Park.

Because of her beginning as a portrait artist, Linda includes her family and friends in every painting. "If you look carefully, you can watch my daughters growing up over the years, starting with the Kennywood series," says Barnicott. "And my husband appears in just about all of them."

Barnicott begins each piece with a photograph of the scene, taking family and friends with her and setting up their positions, including winter attire in downtown Pittsburgh in the middle of the summer. She also makes sketches for reference.

Linda was chosen as the official artist of the 1996 Three Rivers Regatta. Since 1998, she has been commissioned by the American Cancer Society of Greater Pittsburgh to create the painting to be used on their annual Christmas card. In 2000, Barnicott received a Proclamation from the city of Pittsburgh, in commemoration of her "tremendous contribution in capturing and preserving many sites in and around the Pittsburgh area."
